Help Give Back to the Community with Desi Donors

Desi Donors is a voluntary organisation that has been set up to promote and raise awareness for bone marrow, blood and organ donors in Asian and ethnic communities. Boliyan Book has teamed up with Desi Donors in order to increase this awareness and help our wider community understand that we need to come together and help those that are in need.

Desi Donors was launched in July 2009 and is proactively helping Asian patients find the right donor match so they can live longer, however currently there are not enough Asians and ethnic minorities on the register so matches are not being found. There are currently 411,000 people on the Anthony Nolan Register, however only 4% of those are just Asian, making it almost impossible for an Asian patient to find a suitable match. The facts are as simple as this, if you’re a white person there is a 1 in 3 chance of finding a match, but if you’re Asian there is only a 1 in 125,000 chance of finding a match. Desi Donors work with Anthony Nolan, National Blood Service and the NHS Organ Donor Register to get more people on the registers and help save lives.
